This is a skill-oriented course to provide hands-on practice and project work in the field of solar photovoltaic microgrid systems. Moreover Operation and Maintenance of 32.5 kWp PV Microgrid system which is already installed in CUTM Bhubaneswar campus can also be easily analysed during this study period.

Course Objectives:

  • To learn the Rooftop solar sector in India
  • To explain the structure of Microgrid system
  • To outline division aspects and utilization of Microgrid system for both domestic and industrial applications

After completing this program-

  • Understand the solar Microgrid system and it's electricity generation.
  • Provide access to electricity in a disaster hit area on a sustainable and equitable basis.
  • Acquire the knowledge of pre & post commissioning inspection for the solar Microgrid plant in both domestics and industrial field.

Learning Record:

The trainee will submit a Practice/Project/Learning record after each class/session.

Assessment Process:

  • The assessment of the theory/knowledge will be based on a written test/viva-voce or both, while the skill test shall be hands-on practical.

Course Syllabus/Contents:

Module 1: Work Organization and Management (3 hour), SGJ/N0101
Overview and applications in multiple sectors, Work technical terminology and symbols, theory and applications of mathematics, physics, and geometry, Standards currently used and recognized by industry, Current internationally recognized standards, Health and safety legislation and best practice including specific safety.
  • Practice- Site visit to acquire knowledge on Solar Microgrid systems.
Module 2: Site Survey and Customer's requirement (3 hours), SGJ/N0101, ELE/N5903

Site survey

Practice: Preparation of single line diagram (System layout) of the solar Microgrid system
Module 3: Basics of Electrical, Electronics and Solar Energy (6 hours), SGJ/N0101
Electrical and electronics devices and it's applications
  • Practice- Identify different Electrical components used in Solar Energy system and carry out it's operation Voltage, current, resistance and power.
  • Practice- Perform simple calculation of power, energy, radiation etc.
Module 4: Basics of solar Microgrid system (6 hours), SGJ/N0102
Concept on rooftop/ground mounted solar sector in India
  • Practice : Identify and specify different solar microgrid systems Types of Microgrid and it's importance, policy and regulatory framework
  • Practice : Identify and specify different components used in a microgrid system
Module-5: Analysis and designing of Microgrid system (12 hours), SGJ/N0103, SGJ/N0104
  • Single line diagram of microgrid system
  • Practice : Draw the solar PV microgrid system
  • Sizing of microgrid system
  • Practice : Sizing of solar Microgrid system
  • Capacity of the solar system
  • Practice : Designing of solar Microgrid system
  • Performance of microgrid system
  • Practice: Analysis of microgrid system
Module-6: Installation of Microgrid system (9 hours), SGJ/N0103, SGJ/N0104

  • Practice : Connection practice of Solar modules in a microgrid system Steps involved in installation of components used in microgrid system
  • Practice : Connection practice of Solar modules, DCDB, ACDB, in the system Lighting arrestor
  • Practice : Connection practice of CCR/Inverter in a microgrid system
Module-7: Test and Commission of Microgrid system (6 hours), SGJ/N0105
Steps involved in testing of microgrid
  • Practice : Test, record and verify the power quality of a microgrid system O&M of microgrid system
  • Practice : Test and verify the over-all operation of solar Microgrid Concept of PPA & EPC.
