In the apparel industry the work is specified and distributed in different sections. Each section is allotted with a team to work similar type of tasks. The team members need to fulfil the individual target and as well as the teams target as per the quantity and quality allotted by the production department. To supervise the progress of work on an hourly basis for each of the allotted teammate and the group as whole, a line stitching supervisor is needed.

Course Objectives:

  • Integration about machines & their uses in garment industry.
  • Identify the processes of stitching, line balancing and process setting.
  • Analyse & articulate pattern, fabric cutting &sewing operation process of selected garment.
  • Recommended suitable functional stitch & seam construction for selected fabric types & garment style.
  • Understand about work area maintenance health & safety in garment industry.
  • Supervising the process to ensure productivity, quality and delivery of products.
  • Make pattern as per the custom design & specification.
  • Stitching various garments with suitable various seam & stitches.
  • Comply with the safety procedures and standards to be followed

Course Syllabus/Contents:

Module 1:workOrganizational Context(5hrs)
Introduction to Apparel industry, over view of apparel sector in India, identify the processes of stitching, line balancing, SAM calculation. Practice:Demonstration different types of machine, tools & equipment’s& their uses in garment industry.
Module 2: Organize sewing process(3hrs)
  • Explain SAM (Standard Allowed Minute) and basic mathematical calculations required to calculate SAM and other related tasks in the context of stitching supervision. Practice: machine control start stop & loop exercise. Practice: machine threading, bobbin winding, bobbin inserting.
Module 3: Know your sewing machine(12hrs)
Basic machine setting and working with machine .Understand SPI,Back tack lever .Briefing about different machine attachments. Demonstrate threading .Insert needle into needle bar & understand SPI. Practice: Basic loop exercise stitching Practice: make different types seam samples. Practice: make different types of collar. Practice:make different types of pocket. Practice:make different types of neck line.
Module 4: Basicspattern making. (12hrs)
Identify required tools for pattern making Practice: Measurement system how to take measurement. Practice: Basic bodice block drafting. Practice: Bodice block variation with dart manipulation, style analysis. Practice: Basic Skirt block drafting Practice: Basic kameez variation. Practice: Basic trouser & shirt drafting
List of Projects (One project is to be chosen by group of students. Maximum group size is 5)
Project: 1-line Balancing, SAM calculation Project: 2- Construct ladies torso. Project: 3-construct gent’s & ladies shirt. Project: 4-construct gent’s & ladies trouser.
