This is a skill-oriented course to provide the students with the design of Solar operated LED lights consuming low current low watt and to know the load calculation.

Course Objectives:

The objectives of this subject are:

  • Familiarization to the principles, materials, and tools required for solar lighting system
  • Develop an end-to-end technical understanding to execute solar lighting system
  • Concept about load calculation and installation of PV system
  • Complying to the industry specifications, guidelines and safety standards during work

After completing this program-

  • The trainee will be able to design low cost led which can be powered by Solar.
  • The trainee will be an expert on load calculation, design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
  • The trainee will implement different activities like the ulti-board design of the led driver circuit.
  • Can join the industry as a Solar light designer and will progress further as a Solar light installation.
  • Can become an entrepreneur in the related field.
  • Can do Diploma or any Advance program in the same.

Learning Record:

The trainee will submit a Practice/Project/Learning record after each class/session.

Assessment Process:

  • The assessment agencies should have an expert to conduct assessment NOS wise and every trainee should score a minimum of 70% in the overall assessment.
  • The assessment of the theory/knowledge will be based on a written test/viva-voce or both while the skill test shall be hands-on practical.

Course Syllabus/Contents:

Module 1: Work Organization and Management (1 hour), SGJ/N0101
Overview and applications in multiple sectors, Work technical terminology and symbols, theory and applications of mathematics, physics, and geometry, Standards currently used and recognized by industry, Current internationally recognized standards, Health and safety legislation and best practice including specific safety. Practice- Demonstration of Solar powered home/street lights projects
Module 2: Site Survey and Customer's requirement (2 hours), SGJ/N0101, ELE/N5903
Practice: Preparation of Solar home/street lights system layout
Module 3: Basic Electrical Concepts and Introduction to Solar Energy (3 hours), SGJ/N0201
Practice
  • Identify and specify the different Electrical components used in Solar Home/Street lights system and carry out it's operation.
  • Perform simple calculation of power, energy, radiation etc.
  • Measurement of solar radiation in different geographical area.
Module 4: Solar PV lighting system and its components (4 hours), SGJ/N0201

Practice:

  • Identify the different components used in a Solar PV lighting system
  • Carry out operation of the Solar PV lighting system components
Module 5: Solar PV Street lights system and it's components (3 hours), SGJ/N0201

Practice

  • Identify the different components used in a Solar PV street lights system
  • Carry out operation of the Solar PV Street lights system components
Module 6: Assembly and Installation of solar home and street lights system (10 hours), SGJ/N0201, SGJ/N0203, SGJ/N0204

Practice

  • Design and validation of solar home lighting and street lights systems
  •  Measure basic electrical parameters like resistance, current and voltage of different solar lamps and street lights components
  •  Installation of Solar Module, CCR, Battery and electrical appliances
  • Perform step by step procedure to assemble a solar lamp/street lights
Module 7: Testing and Commissioning of Solar PVhome/street lights system (5 hours)

Practice:

  • Test the solar panel to check if the Voc & Isc are according to the specifications mentioned by the manufacturer.
  • Test the battery to check if it’s voltage is within the range specified by the manufacturer.
  • Operation of each component in the system.
  • Verify the PCB and LED as per technical specifications mentioned by the manufacturer
Module 8: Repair and Maintenance of solar PV home/street lights System (2 hours), SGJ/N0202, SGJ/N0203, SGJ/N0204

Practice:

  • Carry out maintenance activities required for each component.
  • Prepare a basic repair and maintenance report.
